PENDER 34

3 bedroom highbank oceanfront home with deck. Majestic ocean and island views from eagle's eye level await you at Sea Sound.  Magnificent sunsets and soft early-morning light, daytime sunshine glinting off the snowcapped peaks of Washington State's Olympic Mountains, dappling dozens of forested islands and the waters far below your deck. Yachts and cruise ships, freighters and fishing boats, whales, porpoises, sea otters, seals and all manner of sea birds live their lives in full view of your aerie.

For those who wish to observe from a comfortable spot closer to the action, bring your binoculars, camera, sunscreen and a cool drink down to the oceanfront lanai.  In storm-watching season, you'll be warm, dry and out of the wind in the glassed solarium off the dining room.

When you're ready to explore a bit of The Penders, you'll have a choice of parks with hiking trails to suit almost any level of fitness, 30-odd lightly used public beach accesses and a public "swimming hole" on warm, engine-free Magic Lake, where the fishers of the family can angle for dinner-size bass.

Try out the tennis courts, the championship disc golf course or the 18-hole golf course.  Plan a sea-kayaking expedition -- beginners are welcome and instruction is all part of the fun.  Fishing and sightseeing charters, bicycle and moped rentals are all available at very reasonable rates.  Visit our galleries and shops.

Compare the lattés at the Galloping Moon with those at That Little Coffee Place (you may need several visits to each before you can make up your mind). Feeling truly decadent?  Book an in-home Shiatsu or Reiki treatment or a Massage and Aromatherapy session, all given by fully accredited practitioners.

Enjoy fresh local produce from the Saturday Farmers Markets, pick up fish and shellfish at Hope Bay Dock or Port Washington Dock (watch for signs along the road). At the Driftwood Centre -- The Pender's "village" -- you'll find a fully stocked small supermarket, liquor store, bakery, pharmacy, bank, restaurant, book and gift stores and a gas station, as well as some nice spaces where you can eat a light snack and watch the world go by. Two convenience stores elsewhere on North Pender stock a surprising variety of hard-to-find items.

Don't feel like cooking? Order in a pizza or try one of The Penders' great restaurants and pubs. Pick up deli items at the supermarket or an unforgettable fruit pie at the bakery.

On cool evenings, light the woodstove in the living room and do your stargazing at the large bay window or pop a tape into the VCR. All four bedrooms are on the main living floor -- extended families may use the private mother-in-law suite on the lower level by prior arrangement. This suite is NEVER rented separately.

However else you may choose to spend your time, we guarantee at least part of it will be spent planning your next visit . . . and the next.
